Ogasawara Islands consists of more than 30 subtropical islands about 1,000 kilometers south of Tokyo Bay. Civilians live only in Chichijima and Hahajima with the population of about 2500 people.
It was remoted island far from the continent, and the number of animals and plants that developed its own evolution and the efforts of protection were evaluated, and it was registered as a World Natural Heritage site in 2011.
About 36% of plants, 28% of insects, 94% of shellfish that live on land such as snails are endemic species.
There are no airports in Chichijima or Hahajima, so you can only go to the island by ship. Please see also Ogasawara Kaiun's website for details.
