Yakushima is located 60 km south-southwest of Sata Cape Kagoshima Prefecture, the southernmost tip of the mainland.

Yakushima was officially registered as Japan 's first world natural heritage on December 11, 1993. It goes without saying that World Natural Heritage Registration is a wonderful thing, but from before the Registration of World Natural Heritage, the plants and zoologists who visited Yakushima said  It is evaluated as " treasure of humanity".
